Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has officially commenced commercial flight operations, marking a major milestone for India’s civil aviation sector and significantly expanding air travel capacity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The airport’s first commercial arrival took place at 08:00 on its opening day, when an IndiGo Airbus operating flight 6E460 from Bengaluru landed at NMIA. To mark the occasion, the aircraft was welcomed with a ceremonial water cannon salute, a long-standing aviation tradition symbolising an airport’s inaugural commercial operation.
The launch of services at Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to ease congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and support future growth in passenger and cargo traffic, positioning NMIA as a key new hub in India’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
