This morning, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) introduced a temporary closure of the airspace over Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport to facilitate enhanced security procedures following the arrival of the remains of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.

According to a statement released by KAA, the airspace closure took effect from 10:26 a.m. to 12:26 p.m. today. The authority described the measure as “essential” to ensure the highest levels of safety and security during the operation.

“This action is part of our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest security standards,” said Dr. Mohamud Gedi, Acting Managing Director and CEO of KAA. “The safety and security of our passengers, staff, and all airport users are our highest priority.”

Passengers with scheduled flights during the two-hour window were advised to contact their airlines for updates on flight statuses and possible itinerary adjustments.

KAA expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation.

The closure comes as Kenya prepares to honor Raila Odinga, a towering figure in the nation’s political history, whose leadership and legacy have left an indelible mark on the country.
