Munich Airport has officially inaugurated its new Terminal 1 pier, marking a significant capacity and quality upgrade aimed at strengthening its position as a leading European hub.
The 95,000 m², six-level facility can handle up to six million additional passengers annually and accommodate both short-haul and wide-body aircraft. It features modern check-in areas, centralised security with advanced CT scanners, expanded waiting zones, and dedicated rest-and-prayer spaces.
The pier introduces a redesigned passenger experience, including a central “marketplace,” around 20 retail outlets, and five new restaurants offering regional and international cuisine. Premium amenities include the Airport Lounge World and an Emirates lounge.
Built at a cost of €665 million and funded independently, the expansion underscores Munich Airport’s long-term growth strategy despite recent industry challenges.
