Munich Airport has opened Bavaria’s largest electric vehicle charging park in parking garage P44, offering 275 charging points and powered by renewable energy from on-site solar panels. The €5.2 million project, developed with regional companies, features 7,216 photovoltaic modules delivering up to three megawatts of peak output—enough to cover the needs of about 1,000 households.
At the launch, Bavarian leaders praised the initiative as a major step for e-mobility and climate protection, positioning Munich Airport as a pioneer in sustainable infrastructure. The charging park is seen as a blueprint for future developments linking energy generation, mobility, and grid infrastructure across the airport campus.
The facility is part of Munich Airport’s NetZero 2035 strategy, which targets eliminating climate-damaging CO? emissions by 2035. With over 1,140 charging points now in operation and plans to boost PV capacity from 7 to 50 megawatts by 2030, the airport aims to set new standards for green mobility and renewable energy integration.
