Munich Airport has inaugurated a new electric bus depot as part of its “Net Zero 2035” strategy, further accelerating the transition to zero-emission ground operations. The facility, located in the airport’s southern area, currently hosts 37 charging stations, with 13 more to follow in summer 2025 and a further expansion planned to add 22 chargers and photovoltaic-equipped carports.
Backed by €23.8 million in federal and EU funding, the project supports the roll-out of 72 electric buses. AeroGround, the airport’s ground handling subsidiary, already operates 37 e-buses and will expand the fleet to 55 by the end of 2025, with a long-term goal of 72. The switch is expected to cut over 4,000 tons of CO? annually once fully implemented.
The initiative is a key milestone in Munich Airport’s commitment to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2035, with over 170 additional zero-emission ground vehicles already introduced in 2024.
