Marseille Marignane airport: aircraft diverted because of forest fires

Share

While several fires continue in the Rhone delta region where almost 1500 hectares went up in smoke, several roads to Marignane airport are closed to traffic, and aircraft are prevented from landing.

Airline authorities advise all passengers who have to leave to check with their airline on the status of their flight before traveling to the airport.

The different fires raging in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, especially in Vitrolles, impact the movement of aircraft at the airport of Marseille Provence Marignane.

Thus, some commercial flights arriving are being diverted to other airports such as Montpellier and Lyon. Other flights may be delayed or cancelled. In this way, the planes used to fight against fires can intervene more easily.
