Three Polish football supporters were arrested at Malta International Airport on Sunday after allegedly causing a disturbance on their flight ahead of Poland’s final World Cup group qualifier, according to TVP World Polish television channel.
Airport police detained the men shortly after landing, following reports that they ignored crew instructions, shouted throughout the flight and disrupted other passengers. A journalist from Kanal Sportowy, who was on board, said the trio were “constantly shouting” before being handcuffed on arrival and taken away by officers.
The fans were reportedly still carrying alcohol when intercepted in the terminal.
Their arrival came as thousands of Polish supporters travelled to Malta for Monday night’s match, a largely symbolic fixture with Poland already guaranteed a play-off spot and unlikely to overtake the Netherlands for first place in the group.
Note: the flight was likely to be LO671 from Warsaw to Malta, operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 reg. SP-LVP
