Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) recorded a strong increase in air cargo volumes in 2025, with November marking the busiest cargo month of the year at 4,202 tonnes. In the first eleven months, total cargo rose by 25% year-on-year, from 26,683 tonnes in 2024 to 37,059 tonnes in 2025.
The growth reflects the Dutch airport’s strategic focus on cargo, announced at the end of 2024, with air freight expected to deliver faster and higher returns than passenger traffic. According to Head of Commercial Development Dean Boljuncic, new airlines joined MST in 2025 while existing customers expanded operations, supported by strong market presence, reliable handling capabilities and increased visibility through cooperation with Schiphol.
Vegetables, fruit and flowers make up a large share of the cargo handled at MST, requiring fast and precise processing. Passenger numbers, however, remain below 2024 levels, with 155,061 passengers handled through November. The airport expects passenger traffic to recover from 2026 with the start of Wizz Air operations.
