A small light aircraft accident at Luxembourg’s Findel Airport caused a temporary runway closure on Thursday evening, leaving two people with minor injuries.

According to RTL and airport CEO Alexander Flassak, the Diamond DA42 (registration OO-ELF) encountered suspected landing gear problems during its approach. Early police findings also indicate that the pilot became unwell mid-flight, contributing to the failed landing.

The aircraft had to be towed from the runway, prompting delays and diversions before normal operations resumed. The runway has since reopened, and flights are operating again.

Among the several diversions, two Cargolux Boeing 747s diverted to Liège and another one to Hahn, a Ryanair flight to Cologne/Bonn and another one to Hahn, a British Airways flight returned to London Heathrow, an easyJet flight diverted to Frankfurt, a China Southern flight to Brussels and an Air Dolomiti flight to Cologne. A Luxembourg Air Ambulance flight also diverted to Liège.
