Lux-Airport has initiated legal proceedings against the seven companies involved in the renovation of the runway at Luxembourg Airport following recurring defects that have caused operational disruptions.
The lawsuit relates to the major runway refurbishment carried out in 2021 and 2022. Since then, irregularities have appeared in the asphalt surface, including potholes that led to significant disruptions at Findel Airport in August 2024 and again in June 2025.
According to Luxembourg’s Minister of Mobility, Yuriko Backes, the defects vary in severity but appear to stem from common causes linked to the renovation works.
The legal action seeks to establish whether Lux-Airport received a runway that met the contractual specifications and to determine liability for the defects, as well as any resulting damages. The minister stated that the completed works “do not meet expectations” but declined to comment further while court proceedings are ongoing.
The case highlights the continuing consequences of the runway issues, which have affected airport operations and raised questions about the quality of one of Luxembourg Airport’s most important infrastructure projects.
