Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 incident: emergency slide detaches mid-air

During Delta Air Lines flight DL520 of 26 April from New York JFK to Los Angeles, the right overwing emergency exit slide detached from Boeing 767-300ER registered N176DN shortly after takeoff, prompting the pilots to declare an emergency and safely land back to JFK International Airport after 33 minutes in the air.

All 176 passengers and 7 crew members were unharmed.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident, which adds to Boeing’s recent scrutiny over plane safety. The cause of the slide detachment remains unclear.

The 33-year-old plane was taken out of service and the passengers were placed on another flight to Los Angeles, according to the FAA.
