London Heathrow Airport reported a record 7.3 million passengers in October, boosted by strong demand to European cities such as Brussels, Lyon, Marseille, and Vienna. The airport maintained its position as the most punctual hub in Europe, achieving top on-time performance despite the busiest month on record.

The airport highlighted the importance of continued investment to support future growth, with plans to increase spending to £2 billion annually from 2027. Heathrow is also urging the Treasury to address the Valuation Office Agency’s business rates revaluation, warning that unchecked increases could drive higher costs for airlines and deter private investment, impacting billions in UK supply chain spending.

This week, Heathrow responded to the Government’s request for further details on its expansion proposals, which include a £33 billion airport expansion alongside a £15 billion modernisation programme. The airport emphasised that the project is the only way to deliver sustainable growth for the UK aviation sector.

“The numbers speak for themselves – working with airlines, Heathrow is serving more passengers on time than any other European hub. We have the skills and knowledge to deliver a world-class airport today, and we are ready and waiting to use this to expand the UK’s gateway to growth,” said Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye.

Heathrow’s expansion plan aims to increase capacity, modernise facilities, and ensure the airport continues to meet rising passenger demand while supporting the UK economy.
