On 5 August, a British Airways Airbus A321 (G-MEDN) operated flight BA422 between London Heathrow, United Kingdom and Valencia, Spain. About ten minutes before landing, the aircraft’s cabin started to fill with dense smoke prompting the crew to start an emergency evacuation just after landing.
Lucy Brown, one of the passengers testifies on Twitter: “A terrifying experience on flight to Valencia. Felt like a horror movie. Thankfully everyone safe. Flight filled with smoke and had to be emergency evacuated.”
The airline confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft safely landed and that all passengers and crew members disembarked. British Airways is assisting the passengers.
Three hours after the incident, passengers were allowed on board again to pick up their remaining (hand) luggage.
