Liege Airport aims to be carbon-neutral by 2030

Share

Liege Airport is intensifying its environmental policy. In less than a year, more than 7,000 photovoltaic panels placed on the roofs of offices and warehouses will enable it to cover 30% of its electricity consumption.

In March 2018, its shareholder Nethys had supplied and installed 3,683 photovoltaic panels on several airport buildings for a covered area of ??12,744 m².

The Board of Directors of Liege Airport has decided to double the number of photovoltaic panels on the site. The maximum power will thus be increased to 2 MW. Several warehouses are or will be quickly operational.

As Luc Partoune, CEO of Liege Airport, explains: “Our environmental policy has been spreading for several years through geothermal energy for the main office building, a cogeneration plant that supplies 8 buildings of the site and a first installation of photovoltaic panels operational since September 2018. With this future installation – scheduled to enter into service during spring 2020 – Liege Airport will be able to produce 13% of its electricity consumption and if we add cogeneration, we will reach 30% of self-generated electricity!“.

A negotiated procedure will be launched in the coming days to designate the supplier and installer of these photovoltaic panels.

Certified ISO 140001 and committed to Airport Carbon Accreditation certification, Liege Airport confirms its commitment to renewable energy sources.
