According to La Libre Belgique, a fuel shortage is currently affecting operations at Liège Airport, with disruptions expected to last several more days.
Two Boeing 767 aircraft bound for Canada were forced to make a short detour to Brussels Airport in Zaventem to refuel before continuing their journey. The issue appears to stem partly from an underestimation of required kerosene volumes by certain oil companies responsible for supplying fuel to airlines. Liège Airport clarified that it mainly acts as an intermediary for fuel storage, while supply contracts are managed by external petroleum companies.
