On 27 August, a light sports aircraft (a Morane-Saulnier MS-893 registered OO-VON) crashed next to the runway at Kortrijk-Wevelgem Airport. The pilot didn’t survive the impact.
The accident occurred around 16:20. The pilot made a wrong manoeuvre while hooking up an advertising banner, which should have been shown above horse race “Waregem Koerse”, causing the aircraft to crash.
Fuel was leaking from the aircraft due to the crash, but the plane did not catch fire. The fire department is now busy cleaning up the leaked liquid.
The aviation authorities have launched an investigation.
