For the first time, the Spanish Air and Space Force has deployed six EF/A-18M Hornet jets to Keflavik Air Base, Iceland, in support of NATO’s air policing mission.
The deployment reinforces NATO’s collective defence in the Arctic region and aims to meet Iceland’s Peacetime Preparedness Needs (ASIC IPPN).
The Spanish detachment, supported by a French Airbus A330MRTT tanker, will provide quick reaction alert (QRA) capabilities, conduct airspace surveillance, and train with multinational partners. Spain is also simultaneously supporting NATO air policing in Lithuania, highlighting its ongoing commitment to Allied air defence efforts.
