In July 2025, Katowice Airport’s operator, GTL S.A., signed a contract with KWADRAT Polska to begin design work on a second cargo terminal. The new 10,000 sq. m facility will be located in the airport’s south-eastern section and is expected to be fully designed by Q1 2026. Once completed, the airport’s total cargo handling area will grow to 22,000 sq. m.
Katowice Airport is Poland’s top regional airport for cargo. In 2024, it handled 37,100 tonnes of freight, with 2025 expected to surpass 40,000 tonnes again. Long-term goals aim for 100,000 tonnes annually, driven by increasing e-commerce demand.
Major carriers like DHL, UPS, FedEx, and Lufthansa Cargo already operate at the airport. The terminal expansion is part of a PLN 1.8 billion (EUR 420 million) investment programme (2024–2032), which includes new passenger and cargo facilities, expanded infrastructure, and EU co-funded multimodal transport projects.
