Jersey Airport experienced a second consecutive evening of flight disruption on Saturday, October 31, following reports of unauthorised drone activity near the airfield. Several flights were unable to land as scheduled, prompting cancellations and alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers.
According to Jersey Airport, four flights were unable to land as planned on Saturday evening because of what it described as illegal and persistent drone activity around the airport. Airlines were arranging alternative travel for passengers. The disruption followed similar incidents on Friday evening, October 30, when multiple drones were reported operating close to the airport from approximately 20:20 until 22:30 local time.
States of Jersey Police said three inbound aircraft were initially diverted during Friday’s incident, although one subsequently managed to land safely at around 23:45. Police launched searches across several areas in the west of the island but had not identified those responsible.
Jersey’s Chief Minister, Lyndon Farnham, described the deliberate operation of drones near the airport as a serious threat to public safety and essential transport infrastructure. Authorities are working with UK agencies to examine additional detection capabilities and counter-drone technology. The police investigation remains ongoing.
