Hong Kong International Airport handled 5.62 million passengers in July 2026, an increase of 8.4% compared with the same month last year. Aircraft movements rose by 1.7% to 34,230.
The increase was driven mainly by double-digit growth in transfer and transit traffic, while passenger numbers among Hong Kong residents and visitors recorded more modest gains. Most geographical markets expanded, and the decline in Middle Eastern traffic continued to narrow.
During the first seven months of 2026, passenger traffic increased by 11.2% to 38.4 million, while movements grew by 4% to 234,905. The airport handled 64.8 million passengers and 403,670 movements over the latest 12-month period.
Cargo performance was weaker in July, with volumes falling by 1.9% to 422,000 tonnes. Exports declined by 8.4%, although transshipments increased by 14.5% and imports by 2.9%. Resilient traffic from Southeast Asia and mainland China partly offset declines from Europe and North America.
Cargo throughput nevertheless rose by 3.2% to 2.92 million tonnes during the first seven months of the year, supported by growth of 14% in Southeast Asian traffic and 11% in European traffic.
HKIA was also named CAPSE’s Most Influential Airport Brand of the Year 2025, based on an assessment of 44 major airports serving more than ten million passengers annually.
