Finland’s Onnettomuustutkintakeskus (AIBF) has launched an investigation on a runway incursion that happened on 18 January at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. A Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-900 (TC-JYH) from Istanbul Airport safely landed on runway 22. The aircraft, however, took longer than expected to vacate the runway. The following aircraft, a Norwegian Air Boeing 737 (EI-FYA) was quickly approaching the runway.
Air traffic control then asked the Norwegian aircraft to go around. The Norwegian crew, however, didn’t react on the instructions, continued approach and landed anyway. The 737 rolled out without any further incident.

“Onnettomuustutkintakeskus on käynnistänyt alustavan tutkinnan ilmailun vaaratilanteesta illalla 18.1. Helsinki-Vantaan lentoasemalla. Vaaratilanteessa #matkustajalentokone laskeutui varatulle kiitotielle, jolle oli juuri laskeutunut toinen matkustajalentokone. #ilmailu,” the AIBF wrote in a statement.
