After nearly 100 years, Geneva Airport’s sole runway has been renamed last night. The runway is now called 22 / 04 instead of 23 / 05. The new name has to do with the shift of the magnetic north.

Worldwide, runways are numbered based on their orientation relative to the magnetic north. The latter, however, shifts a little each year, so that a change of name takes place over time.

That is the case now for the runway at Geneva Airport. Twenty people worked during the night to change the signs and path markings. 150 kilograms of paint was used and around 100 panels have been replaced.
