Frankfurt Airport will officially inaugurate its long-awaited Terminal 3 on April 22, 2026, following the successful completion of all official inspections, including fire safety. The approval marks the terminal’s transition from a construction site to full operational preparation.
Operator Fraport AG is now finalising installations such as 21 high-tech security lanes, food and retail outlets, and baggage handling systems. Between January and April 2026, around 8,000 volunteers will participate in trial operations to ensure smooth passenger processes.
Built over ten years, Terminal 3 will initially feature Piers G, H, and J, accommodating up to 19 million passengers annually. Despite global challenges — including the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and supply chain disruptions — the project remained on schedule and within budget, according to Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH, which managed construction.
After the inauguration, 57 airlines currently in Terminal 2 will transition to Terminal 3 in four phases between mid-April and early June 2026, serving both Schengen and non-Schengen routes.
