Frankfurt Airport, the largest airport in Germany and continental Europe, cancelled 102 of its 1,052 scheduled flights on Monday due to severe snow and ice conditions, according to operator Fraport. The airport warned that further cancellations were possible, with disruptions expected to continue until at least midday.
Germany’s national weather service (DWD) issued frost warnings for parts of Hesse, where the airport is located. Passengers were advised to check flight status in advance and arrive at least three hours before departure.
The winter storm has also caused widespread disruption across Germany. Long-distance rail services, particularly in the north, were heavily affected, and precautionary school closures were implemented. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, more than 5,400 schools remained closed on Monday.
