4,000 square meter restaurant area restyled – McDonald’s launches new restaurant concept and indoor children’s playground

Just in time for the arrival of spring, Frankfurt Airport’s “Food Plaza” at Terminal 2 will be reopening on March 31 following a seven-month renovation and redesign project.  Located on Level 4 of Terminal 2, this popular food and beverage area is also home to McDonald’s flagship restaurant at Frankfurt Airport.  Guests will be able to enjoy an entirely new, highly modern restaurant concept at the largest McDonald’s restaurant in Europe – featuring seats for 650 patrons, a McCafé and a children’s playground.   Innovations include digital menu boards located in the restaurant and café, easy-order terminals, plus table service that McDonald’s will be offering for the first time in Germany.

Fraport executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte said:  “We are particularly honoured that McDonald’s is launching its new concept here at Frankfurt Airport.  After all, we can look back on the successful partnership with McDonald’s that has evolved and flourished for more than two decades.  Together, we are we are starting a new chapter at Germany’s largest international aviation hub.

Holger Beeck, the chairman of McDonald’s Germany Inc. added:  “We are very pleased to be reopening our fourth location at Frankfurt Airport.  This restaurant is particularly special for us because it launches our future direction here in Germany.  Our new flagship restaurant at Frankfurt Airport serves as the showcase for the new world of McDonald’s.

Along with McDonald’s and McCafé, the Food Plaza offers two other new food and beverage concepts: an Italian-style restaurant called “Vito”, and “Ludwigs” for German specialties.

The popular children’s play area at the Terminal 2 Food Fair has also been redesigned.  Young airport visitors and passengers can now enjoy an even larger climbing and playing and area with its large rocket and slide.  The playland is situated between the McDonald’s restaurant and McCafé.

Accessed via the Food Fair, Fraport’s Visitors’ Terrace is also being restyled with a bright, modern, and more welcoming reception area.  The outdoor Visitors Terrace itself has also been partially renovated, with a 700 square-meter area now sporting new flooring.  This renovated area of the Visitors’ Terrace is expected to reopen to the public later in April.
