This morning between 07:27 to 08:15 (UTC +2) air traffic was halted at Frankfurt Airport, Germany after a drone sighting. While arriving traffic was forced to hold or to divert, departing traffic was being held at the gates.
On the incident, Eurocontrol tweeted: “Drone in vicinity of Frankfurt airport – currently zero-rate“.
Lufthansa, Frankfurt Airport’s biggest customer, tweeted: “Due to a drone sighting at Frankfurt Airport, the flight operations are currently discontinued. The safety of our passengers has the highest priority.“
The police authorities (Bundespolizei Flughafen Frankfurt am Main) are investigating the incident: “Drohnensichtung am Frankfurt Airport. Flugbetrieb im Zeitraum von 07:27 bis 08:15 Uhr eingestellt. Aufklärungs- und Fahndungsmaßnahmen der Sicherheitsbehörden wurden umgesetzt. Flugbetrieb seit 08:18 Uhr wieder aufgenommen. Unsere Pressemitteilung folgt.“
Update 08:37 (UTC +2): Eurocontrol informed that the situation at Frankfurt airport is recovering, as a result of the temporary closure, however, delays are to be expected for the rest of the day.
“Frankfurt now accepting arrivals and departures. Recovering, but almost at normal acceptance rate. High delays for the forseeable future.“
