Ryanair departures from Eindhoven Airport faced major delays on Sunday, largely due to ongoing staff shortages at ground handling firm Skytanking, the airport confirmed. Departing flights were most affected, though some arrivals were also delayed earlier in the day.
Skytanking, responsible for Ryanair’s baggage handling since April 2024, has struggled with understaffing, a long-standing issue flagged by the Dutch Labour Inspectorate and trade union FNV. Airport officials described the situation as a “major headache,” with too few workers to meet demand.
An anonymous Skytanking employee told local media that staff are overworked and sometimes assigned tasks without proper training, raising both safety and liability concerns. Discussions between Eindhoven Airport and Skytanking are ongoing to address the recurring problems.
