The number of passengers at Eindhoven Airport for the first six months of this year totalled over 3.18 million. This signifies an increase of 9% compared to the same period last year, just under 2.93 million. Figures for the first half of 2019 show that the number of aircraft movements during the period grew by 7%, reaching 19,854 (first half of 2018: 18,585).
Flights from and to Eindhoven Airport saw a higher average seat occupancy rate: the average for the first half of 2018 was 158, compared to 160.3 for the same period this year. The number of destinations has also increased, from 78 to 89 since the second half of 2018. Among the destinations made accessible from the Brainport region airport during this period are Moscow, Vienna and Istanbul.
Total aircraft movements for 2019 are forecast at 41,200 (2018: 38,600). In 2018, Eindhoven Airport welcomed 6.2 million passengers. The anticipated number for 2019 is 6.7 million.
Roel Hellemons, CEO of Eindhoven Airport, says: “Eindhoven Airport previously announced that it would be moderating growth in 2019 and 2020, utilising less than the maximum permitted capacity. Instead, the airport chose for quality, and development that is in balance with the immediate surroundings. The number of aircraft movements forecast for 2019 shows that we are on track. What’s more, we are starting to witness visible demand for more quality destinations, such as capital cities and economic centres, to be added to our network. A growing region such as Eindhoven benefits from good accessibility and connections. Through collaborating with all parties concerned – from businesses to local residents – this is what we hope to achieve.”
