Copenhagen Airport welcomed 3.1 million passengers in May, a 7% increase compared with the same month last year and the highest May traffic figure in the airport’s history.
According to Copenhagen Airport, strong demand for travel continues despite higher fuel prices, with several days in May matching the busiest periods of last summer.
Growth was driven primarily by European routes. Norway remained the airport’s largest international market with 259,000 passengers, while Italy recorded the strongest growth. Traffic between Copenhagen and 12 Italian destinations rose by 18% year-on-year to 231,000 passengers, an increase of 36,000 travellers.
Domestic traffic also expanded significantly. During the first five months of 2026, 590,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes to and from Copenhagen, up 22% compared with the same period last year. The increase has been supported by additional services to Aalborg and Aarhus, as well as the reopening of routes to Billund and Midtjylland Karup.
Copenhagen Airport said its role as an international hub continues to strengthen, with a growing share of domestic passengers connecting to international flights. Transfer traffic now accounts for four out of every ten domestic passengers, providing access to more than 330 destinations served from Copenhagen during the summer season.
