Copenhagen Airport posts record November as transfer and domestic traffic surge

Share

Copenhagen Airport recorded its busiest November ever, handling 2.42 million passengers — an 11% jump compared with the same month last year — driven largely by a surge in transfer and domestic travel.

Transfer traffic was the standout performer, rising 37% year-on-year. One in four passengers now uses Copenhagen as a connecting hub, reinforcing its role as the Nordic region’s leading gateway.

“This year, the airlines have the largest winter traffic programme in the airport’s history, with more connections than ever before,” said Peter Krogsgaard, the airport’s commercial director. “Routes to warmer European destinations are popular, and demand is strong for long-haul travel as well.”

Airport officials say the growth in transfer passengers boosts Denmark’s global accessibility and supports foreign investment. Krogsgaard added that the strong transfer trend “strengthens connections to Europe and the intercontinental routes to North America and Asia” — helping maintain routes that would not be viable on local demand alone.

Most transfer travellers originate from Denmark, Sweden and Norway, though numbers from Germany, Italy and Poland are also climbing.

Domestic travel saw a major rebound too, with a 23% increase in November compared to last year.

The airport’s winter schedule features expanded long-haul options, including more direct flights to Asia. Shanghai has returned to the network, travel to Japan is growing, and new connections to Mumbai and Seoul have been launched. In mid-December, Vietnam Airlines will open the first-ever direct link between Denmark and Vietnam, operating three weekly flights to Ho Chi Minh City.

Despite the long-haul gains, London remains Copenhagen’s top destination.
