Cologne Bonn Airport reported a net profit of €13.5 million for 2025, marking its fourth straight year in profit despite ongoing pressure from high operating costs and difficult conditions in the German aviation market.
Revenue rose sharply to €444.2 million, up from €363.8 million in 2024, helped by the airport taking over responsibility for passenger security screening. EBITDA fell to €57.4 million due to wage increases and competitive pressures, but overall profit still improved slightly year-on-year.
Airport CEO Thilo Schmid said the airport’s strategy continues to focus on passenger traffic and cargo operations while investing heavily in infrastructure and passenger experience. Around €180 million has been invested over the past four years, with a further €400 million planned over the next five years.
Passenger numbers exceeded 10 million again in 2025, reaching 10.1 million travellers. Demand remained strong for leisure destinations in Spain, Turkey and Greece, while domestic German traffic continued to weaken. The airport’s summer schedule now includes 115 destinations in 38 countries served by 26 airlines, with new routes including Belgrade, Tbilisi and Bucharest.
Cargo volumes remained stable at around 840,000 tonnes, reinforcing the airport’s role as a major logistics hub in Germany and Europe.
The airport is also continuing major upgrades to passenger facilities and sustainability infrastructure. New CT security screening systems are being introduced to speed up security checks, while terminal improvements include upgraded seating areas, new family facilities and expanded food and beverage offerings.
On the environmental side, the airport is investing more than €30 million in electrification projects and charging infrastructure, partly funded by the European Union. A new wood-fired heating plant aimed at reducing emissions is also nearing completion.
