Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport has reached a new milestone, welcoming its 19 millionth passenger on 9 December aboard an SAS flight from Copenhagen. This achievement marks the highest annual passenger volume in the airport’s 75-year history and caps a year of exceptional growth, with monthly traffic exceeding 1.5 million passengers since April and averaging 1.8 million during the autumn.
Airport CEO Francois Berisot attributes the surge to Hungary’s rising tourism appeal, a diversified airline development strategy, and the benefits of VINCI Airports’ global network. Visit Hungary CEO Olivér Csendes highlighted that targeted, data-driven marketing efforts are successfully strengthening the country’s international profile. SAS, which carried the milestone passenger, underscored its expanded presence in Budapest, including increased Copenhagen frequencies for the upcoming summer.
To support ongoing growth, Budapest Airport continues to invest heavily in infrastructure upgrades aimed at expanding capacity and enhancing the passenger experience.
