Aviapartner strike at Brussels Airport to enter day five on Monday

Handling agent Aviapartner will resume its operations on Sunday morning 06:00 (UTC +1), if negotiations are successful. The wildcat strike that started Thursday evening will continue all day SaturdayThursday night, 300 passengers were forced to sleep at the airport. On a busy Friday – the start of the autumn holidays – the airlines that are handled by Aviapartner cancelled more than 180 flights, other flights diverted to nearby airports. Anyway, this strike is causing much chaos and disgruntlement among the stranded passengers.

A new meeting between unions and the Aviapartner management has been scheduled for today as yesterday both parties didn’t find an agreement yet. Thousands of passengers are expected to travel through Brussels Airport, another busy day at the start of autumn holidays.

Holiday airline TUI Fly Belgium diverted several flights to Liege Airport, Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Rotterdam. Passengers will be coached towards these alternative airports. Five TUI flights have been scheduled to depart from Brussels Airport, the airline confirmed to take all the appropriate measures to bring its passengers to their final destination as swiftly as possible.

Brussels Airlines, Brussels Airport’s biggest customer, is not affected by the actions as their flights are handled by Swissport.

At Brussels Airport, Aviapartner handles Aegean Airlines, Aer Lingus, Air Baltic, Air Europa, Air Serbia, Air Transat, All Nippon Airways, BMI Regional, British Airways, CSA Czech Airlines, Easyjet, El Al, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad Airways, FlyEgypt, HOP Airlines, Iberia, KLM, Meridiana Fly, Nouvelair, Onur Air, Pegasus Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Ryanair, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, Sun Express, TAP Portugal, Transavia, TUIfly, Tunisair, Turkish Airlines, Vueling.

Meanwhile, Brussels Airport urges passengers to check if their airline is handled by Aviapartner, in that case the airport asks passengers to travel “handluggage only“.
