According to Federal Minister for Economy Kris Peeters, the Brussels government can not introduce stricter noise standards for Brussels Airport due to procedural flaws in the current legislation.

In a letter to Brussels Minister for Environment Céline Fremault, Kris Peeters points out that she has failed to report technical requirements to the European Commission. Without this requirements  any airline can go to court to challenge the Brussels region noise regulations. In that case the court would rule in favour of the airline(s), Kris Peeters added. The Brussels Region has not yet responded.
