Brussels South Charleroi Airport warns it “cannot guarantee any flights” during national strike on 26 November

Brussels South Charleroi Airport expects major disruption next Wednesday, 26 November, as a nationwide union strike is set to significantly impact airport operations. The airport says it cannot guarantee any departing or arriving flights, citing a lack of essential staff to operate safely.

In a statement, the airport explains that the national day of action will make it impossible to ensure normal activities. “Due to the union strike and the shortage of personnel needed to guarantee safety, flights—both departures and arrivals—cannot be guaranteed on Wednesday,” the airport said.

The announcement follows Brussels Airport’s earlier decision to cancel all departing passenger flights that same day, affecting more than 200 services. Both airports expect the walkout to heavily impact security screening, baggage handling, and other operational areas.

Charleroi Airport also warns that travelling to the airport will be difficult from Monday to Wednesday, as unions have planned a three-day mobilisation campaign. Passengers should expect roadblocks, limited public transport options, and severe delays.

“Take your precautions to avoid delays,” the airport advises. Airlines will contact affected travellers directly to arrange rebooking or refunds.

The national strike on 26 November is the seventh major union action this year, once again heavily disrupting Belgian aviation despite protests being aimed at federal government policies.
