Operations at Brussels South Charleroi Airport were suspended for approximately 25 minutes on Wednesday afternoon after a privately operated drone entered the airport’s airspace.

The drone was detected by Skeyes air traffic control systems at around 14:00 and was immediately intercepted. One arriving aircraft was placed in a holding pattern, while passengers were disembarked from another aircraft as a precaution.

Airport officials said the incident was brought under control quickly and caused no significant disruption to subsequent operations. Passenger and operational safety remained the priority throughout the response.

Police detained the drone operator, who could face a fine.
