Travellers heading to Brussels South Charleroi Airport from today face fewer public transport options after Walloon public transport operator TEC discontinued two of its three Airport Express bus services.
The A2 route from Fleurus railway station and the A3 route from Luttre railway station were withdrawn on 4 July after failing to attract sufficient passenger numbers since their introduction in June 2023. The services had been launched to improve rail connectivity to the airport after plans for a dedicated railway station were abandoned.
The A1 Airport Express between Charleroi-Central railway station and the airport remains in operation and has been strengthened. While journey times have increased slightly due to a revised route, buses now operate every 15 minutes, doubling the previous frequency.
According to TEC, concentrating resources on a single route via Charleroi-Central will provide a simpler and more reliable service, as the city’s main station offers better passenger facilities than those at Fleurus or Luttre.
For travellers from Brussels, the privately operated Flibco coach service continues to provide direct links from the Midi station to the airport.
