Brussels South Charleroi Airport has launched its “Cool, Relax & Respect – We work for you” campaign to raise awareness of growing aggression against airport staff.
In 2024, the airport recorded 77 assaults against its employees, including 11 cases of physical violence. By July 2025, 38 incidents had already been logged, nearly half involving physical aggression. Partner staff have also faced frequent abuse.
Aggression typically arises during delays, queues, luggage fees, or ID issues, with staff often targeted by stressful, angry, or intoxicated passengers.
Offenders risk being denied boarding and reported to the police.
CEO Christophe Segaert stressed the airport’s zero-tolerance policy, calling the campaign both a tribute to staff and a call for civic responsibility. Measures include conflict management training, psychological support, and visible awareness efforts.
The campaign features comic-strip posters with mascot Charlie the rabbit, illustrating common conflict scenarios. It is complemented by staff lanyards, luggage clips, and gifts for children, reinforcing the message that airport staff work daily to ensure a safe, smooth, and pleasant journey for all passengers.
