Belgian logistics company Van Moer Logistics has taken over the air freight activities of transport group Ziegler at Brussels Airport following the latter’s bankruptcy.
The Brussels Enterprise Court approved the bankruptcy of several Ziegler entities on Monday, putting more than 500 jobs in Belgium at risk. However, Van Moer Logistics has stepped in to acquire the company’s air cargo division based at Brucargo, ensuring the continuation of operations without interruption.
In a statement, Van Moer Logistics said it would immediately continue all activities of the acquired division, preserving services for customers and strengthening its position in the freight forwarding market.
“Air freight was the only forwarding service we could not yet offer our customers in-house,” said CEO Jo Van Moer. “Many of our customers move goods by road, inland waterways and air. From today, they can also rely on us for their air cargo shipments.”
According to Belgian trade unions, the takeover could safeguard the jobs of around 50 to 60 employees working in Ziegler’s air freight division at Brussels Airport.
The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Van Moer Logistics’ multimodal logistics portfolio, while offering a degree of stability to part of Ziegler’s workforce amid the collapse of the century-old transport group.
