Brussels Airport has announced today (Monday 20 August 2018) that an old aircraft bomb was found during construction works on apron 9 (cargo zone).
It’s not the first time that old, unexploded ordnance was found at the airport. Just few months ago, another old bomb was discovered at the airport during construction works on apron 3 (see our report here).
The newly discovered bomb does not present any danger for terminal buildings, passengers and cargo operations. All operations continue as planned.
DOVO/SEDEE (the Belgian Army’s explosive ordnance disposal unit) will dismantle the bomb during the night of Tuesday on Wednesday.
Brussels Airport is not the only airport where old bombs are discovered. According to flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, old unexploded ordnance was also discovered at Dresden airport on 24 May 2018 and at London City airport on 11 February 2018.
