The Federal Mediation Service has unveiled a comprehensive noise reduction plan for Brussels-National Airport, aiming to balance aviation, public health, and environmental concerns.
The plan targets noise reduction, compliance with court decisions, and better protection for municipalities near the airport, while maintaining air traffic safety using the parallel runways 25R and 25L.
Federal Ombudsman Philippe Touwaide criticised Brussels Airport Company for decades of inaction on noisy, older aircraft and a lack of environmental measures. He stressed that radical measures are now essential to limit the negative impact of aviation on residents, the environment, and public health, calling for cooperation from airport authorities to implement the plan effectively.
