Again delays expected at Brussels Airport by lack of air traffic controllers

At Brussels Airport delays are expected due to a shortage of Belgocontrol air traffic controllers. “A number of workers called in ‘sick’ recently,” said spokesman Dominique Dehaene to VRT news. The problems relate to the period between 1500 to 2200 hours this Friday 20 May.

So far, management has found no volunteers to substitute for sick colleagues. “The new social agreement provides for a stand-by system, but it is not yet in place,” says Dehaene. The spokesman cannot estimate how important the delays will be. “But there will be delays.” According to Brussels Airport, delays will in any case be limited, at most half an hour.

Belgocontrol and Brussels Airport management are looking at solutions to limit the damage.
