For the first time three airlines that violated the Brussels region noise standards have been sued, they risk to pay fines between €12,000 and €30,000.

The Brussels Region kept on imposing fines to airlines taking off from Brussels Airport, however they never collected the fines nor did the airlines pay them. Three airlines have now been sued for repeatedly exceeding the Brussels Region noise standards in 2014 and 2015.

The fine of the undisclosed American airline was settled, while the other two airlines have been sued for €12,000 (an undisclosed Canadian airline) and €30,000 (an unknown Portuguese airline).

One of the lawyers of the targeted airlines does not dispute the violation, but states that the violation falls under the “specific circumstances” provided in the Ministerial Decree. The court will rule next 16 November.
