A stabbing at Brussels Airport has intensified concerns over security, with Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele calling for additional federal police reinforcements.
The incident involved two homeless men, in which a 53-year-old attacker seriously injured a 27-year-old man using a box cutter. The victim was hospitalised and underwent surgery, while the motive remains under investigation by prosecutors.
Diependaele warned of growing pressure on airport security due to ongoing issues such as homelessness and public disturbances, arguing that current police resources are insufficient to ensure passenger safety.
The situation also adds to existing concerns over long waiting times at immigration control, which the Flemish government has previously raised with Federal Interior Minister Bernard Quintin. Authorities are expected to address both security and operational challenges in upcoming federal-regional discussions.
