Brussels Airport relocates bus station ahead of major infrastructure project

Share

Brussels Airport will relocate its bus station from 7 May as part of preparations for a major redevelopment aimed at transforming the site into a fully integrated transport hub.

The temporary station will be situated approximately 100 metres from the departure and arrival hall and will serve all bus traffic for the next four years. The move is designed to free up space for the construction of the airport’s future intermodal hub, a central component of its long-term “Hub 3.0” strategy, scheduled for completion by 2030.

The new facility will feature five platforms and accommodate services operated by regional networks De Lijn and STIB/MIVB, as well as intercity coach providers including FlixBus and Flibco. Airport authorities confirmed that the relocation will not affect bus schedules.

Despite the change in location, the station will remain on level 0, with passengers able to access the terminal via a covered walkway and a newly designated entrance. Luggage lockers, currently located near the existing station, will also be moved to the new site.

Bus transport plays a significant role in the airport’s overall mobility network. Around 600 buses operate to and from the airport daily—exceeding the number of flight movements—and approximately 1.3 million passengers and staff rely on bus services each year.

The relocation marks an early step in the broader redevelopment plan, which aims to consolidate multiple transport modes into a single, streamlined hub. The future complex is expected to include improved links to the underground rail station, upgraded bus and taxi facilities, a dedicated platform for long-distance coaches, and a terminus for a planned airport tram line.

By advancing the project, Brussels Airport is seeking to strengthen its position as a key mobility node in the region, with a focus on improving connectivity and passenger flow across transport modes.
