Brussels Airport has signed a memorandum of understanding with United Airlines and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to establish a dedicated pharmaceutical air cargo corridor with Washington Dulles International Airport.
The agreement aims to standardise processes and streamline logistics between the two hubs, improving the efficiency and reliability of transatlantic transport for pharmaceutical and life sciences products. United Airlines, which already operates daily flights on the route, will act as the primary carrier.
The initiative builds on Belgium’s strong position as a global pharmaceutical exporter and Brussels Airport’s role as a leading pharma logistics hub, supported by extensive temperature-controlled infrastructure and industry certifications.
On the U.S. side, Virginia is emerging as a growing pharmaceutical manufacturing centre, with increasing investment driving demand for transatlantic cargo capacity.
The partners said the collaboration will focus on aligning procedures, sharing best practices and strengthening supply chain resilience, enabling faster and more secure transport of sensitive medical products.
Bottom line: The agreement reinforces Brussels Airport’s position in high-value pharma logistics while deepening transatlantic supply chain integration between Europe and the United States.
