Brussels Airport hosts 9th Spotters’ Day for aviation enthusiasts

Share

Brussels Airport welcomed 20 aviation enthusiasts on Tuesday for the ninth edition of its annual Spotters’ Day, offering participants exclusive behind-the-scenes access and unique opportunities to photograph aircraft from locations normally inaccessible to the public.

The event proved more popular than ever, with more than 220 people entering the competition for one of the limited places, up from 165 applicants in 2025.

The selected spotters were escorted to a dedicated area close to the runways, where they photographed aircraft arrivals and departures throughout the day, including several aircraft wearing special commemorative liveries.

Participants also visited the AHLEX aviation training centre, where they learned more about the wide range of careers and training opportunities available within the airport community.

Another highlight was an exclusive presentation of Brussels Airport’s new airport rescue and firefighting vehicles, among the most advanced crash tenders in their class. Airport firefighters demonstrated the capabilities of the new vehicles while explaining the vital role emergency services play in maintaining safe airport operations.

Brussels Airport has long been a popular destination for aircraft spotters thanks to the diversity of its traffic, with more than 70 airlines serving the airport and operating a wide variety of aircraft types. Since 2018, the airport has also provided two dedicated spotting platforms, allowing enthusiasts to observe and photograph aircraft safely while enjoying excellent views of the runways.

By organising Spotters’ Day, Brussels Airport aims to thank the aviation enthusiast community, whose photographs and social media posts help promote the airport to audiences both in Belgium and abroad.
