Brussels Airport breaks ground on sustainable logistics hub to support cargo growth

Share

Brussels Airport has officially launched construction of a new 14,000-square-metre logistics facility in its cargo zone, marking another step in the airport’s ongoing efforts to modernise and expand its freight infrastructure.

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the development will provide additional warehouse and office space for two long-standing airport partners: Yusen Logistics and Air Promotions Agencies (APA). The companies, which operate in the pharmaceutical and general cargo sectors respectively, will use the new facility to expand their activities and improve operational efficiency.

The project forms part of Brussels Airport’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a leading European logistics hub through continued investment in modern, flexible and sustainable cargo infrastructure.

Designed to meet high environmental standards, the new building is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification. Sustainability features will include a timber-beam structure, solar panels, heat pumps, rainwater collection systems, landscaped rain gardens, electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle parking facilities.

The facility is being built on a redeveloped site where an outdated building was previously demolished, allowing Brussels Airport to make more efficient use of limited land within its heavily utilised cargo area.

By supporting the expansion of existing cargo operators while improving sustainability and land-use efficiency, the project represents another milestone in the long-term development of Brussels Airport’s cargo ecosystem.
