As Belgium celebrates its National Day on 21 July, Brussels Airport continues its year-round role as both a gateway and ambassador of Belgian culture. Welcoming 70,000 to 90,000 passengers daily, the airport doubles as the world’s largest chocolate retailer—selling 1.5 kg every minute, or around 850 tonnes annually. Top sellers include Neuhaus chocolate boxes and Leonidas hazelnut bars.

In addition to chocolate, comic book souvenirs are major hits. The best-selling non-food item is a Tintin carrier bag, followed by plush toys and keyrings of Tintin, Snowy, and the Smurfs.

Belgian identity is infused throughout the airport—from displays of national landmarks and facts about Belgian icons to the 3,000 glasses of Belgian beer served daily. Local brands, Art Deco design elements, and a life-size Tintin rocket further highlight the airport’s deep sense of “Belgitude.”
