Farmers, led by the Flemish agricultural union ABS, will continue their blockade at the Brucargo air freight terminal near Brussels Airport until Saturday morning.
The protest, which began Thursday evening, involves tractors blocking the entrance and causing significant traffic disruptions by allowing trucks to pass for only ten minutes every half hour.
While flights remain unaffected and priority medical vehicles are permitted through, the action is a demonstration against the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement. However, the union states the protest also targets broader Flemish and federal legislation that they believe jeopardises the future of local and sustainable food production.
